Saffron Turmeric Golden Latte
A warm, cozy latte inspired by the Haldi doodh I grew up with. This version is elevated with saffron and spices bloomed in ghee - a tinystep that makes the drink deeper, smoother, and extra comforting. Perfect for slow mornings or calming evenings.
Servings: 2 cups
- 2 cups Milk - almond, soy, oat, or cow’s milk (your choice)
- 6-8 strands Saffron strands, powdered
- ½ inch knob Fresh turmeric, crushed (or use ¼ teaspoon powder)
- ½ inch knob Fresh ginger, crushed
- ½ teaspoon Black pepper, freshly crushed
- 1 teaspoon Ghee
- Sweetener - honey, jaggery, or maple to taste
Bloom the saffron: Powder the saffron strands and bloom them in 1 tablespoon warm milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
Bloom the spices in ghee: Heat 1 teaspoon ghee in a pot. Add crushed ginger, crushed turmeric, and freshly crushed black pepper. Bloom for 30 seconds on low heat.
Add milk: Pour in your choice of milk. Bring it to a gentle simmer.
Add saffron milk: Stir in the saffron‑infused milk. Switch off the heat.
Strain & sweeten: Strain into a cup. Add your preferred sweetener.
Garnish & serve: Garnish with a few saffron threads. Enjoy hot -soothing, aromatic, and golden.
- If you don’t have fresh ginger or fresh turmeric, you can use ginger powder and haldi powder.
- Use about ¼ teaspoon of each in place of the fresh crushed knobs.
- They blend smoothly and still give you the same warm, soothing flavor.
- Powdered spices also make the latte quicker on busy mornings.
